I’ve been polishing up my Dutch language skills again.  I am very pleased to now know 5 words of Dutch

• winkel (shop)
• wankel (wonky)
• Schiphol (an airport in Amsterdam with a runway so far away from the terminal that it is actually in Belgium)
• binnenband (inner tube)
• Koninginnedag (a pathetically veiled excuse to wear silly orange hats, drink lots of Amstel and crash boats on the canals a joyous day in celebration of the Queen’s birthday)

But I forgot …. I know another Dutch word.  I know six now I also know slagroom. A very important Dutch word to know, even though it makes Engels-speaking people giggling when they say it.

• slagroom = whipped cream
• and plain old cream is room

Important to know coz you will be want to put room and/or slagroom on your pannekoeken.
